ACHIEVEMENTS

Colleen has worked in the family business, Hugh Munro Construction (HMC), since 1977. She was named Secretary/Treasurer in 1982 and became President in 2008. HMC has been in operation since 1959.

 

Some of the high-profile projects include:

• Red River Floodway Expansion (2002)

• CentrePort Canada Way x West Perimeter Connection (2012)

• Lake St. Martin Outlet Channel Access Road (2016)

The Munro Group has worked throughout Manitoba, northwestern Ontario, and Saskatchewan.
Colleen is a pioneer for women in the industry. She was the first woman to be appointed Chair of the
Manitoba Heavy Construction Association Board of Directors (1996), and she is the current (2022) Chair of
the Manitoba Construction Sector Council and the Manitoba Women’s Advisory Council. Colleen’s expertise and desire to create a safe, vibrant, and full-time employed industry is noted in her volunteer organizational work, including:


• Chairperson of the MB Women’s Advisory Council (Recently appointed)
• Chairperson of Manitoba Construction Sector Council (2017- Present)
• Chairperson of the Manitoba Heavy Construction Assoc. (1996-1998)
• Chairperson of the Western Canadian Roadbuilders Association (1998-2020)
• First, and only, woman to ever hold the position of Chairperson of both the above organizations
• Member of the Canadian Construction Association
• Member of the Asper Association of MB

• Ambassador of the Toba Centre

• Past member of Apprenticeship Manitoba

• Past member of the Minister’s Advisory Council on Workforce Development
• Past member of Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation Awards, Decorations and Service Medals:
• Nominated for Women of Distinction Award
• Nominated for Entrepreneur of the Year Award
• Nominated for the E and Y Entrepreneur of the Year (2009)
• Numerous awards from Manitoba Infrastructure road building projects
• Appointed an “Honorary Lieutenant Colonel” of the 38th Combat Engineering Division.
